IMPAQ International is conducting a random assignment study of WestEd’s Reading Apprenticeship Across the Disciplines teacher professional development program for the U.S. Department of Education. The study will assess implementation and impact of the program on teacher practices and student reading outcomes in 40 middle schools in multiple states.

We are using a mixed-methods approach to understand teaching practices, students beliefs and behaviors, and student academic achievement. This includes conducting teacher focus groups, collecting teacher and student survey responses, and administering a student literacy assessment.

Our team has worked on similar projects for WestEd. We have evaluated two alternative versions of the Reading Apprenticeship professional development program, as part of the Reading Apprenticeship Validation Study (concluded in 2015) and the Reading Apprenticeship: Writing Connections Study (concluded in 2016).
