Ms. Ann-Marie Akiwumi

Ms. Ann-Marie Akiwumi is a Data Analytics Lead within IMPAQ's Health Division and has over 10 years of experience conducting focused analytic studies and advanced analytics, data validation and statistically valid random samples and extrapolations. She brings extensive knowledge of health care systems and project management principles and a strong history in creating, implementing and standardizing efficient operations of IMPAQ Health’s portfolio of data analytic contracts. Ms. Akiwumi manages the division’s large and diverse teams of programmers, while promoting the utilization and sharing of best practices across projects.


Ms. Akiwumi primarily supports IMPAQ's portfolio of health-related projects that require the use of Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) computing environments and other large, complex databases. She currently serves as a Data Analytics Coach for CMS staff by querying CMS' Integrated Data Repository (IDR) and creating reports that analyze data to understand and improve newly implemented programs. She also serves in a technical lead role to determine the completeness and accuracy of the Prisoner Update Processing System (PUPS) data for the Marketplace. Ms. Akiwumi leads the development and maintenance of IMPAQ's Social Determinant of Health (SDoH) Dashboard Action Tool, a data visualization tool that highlights which evidence-based SDoH factors are affecting population health at the local level. Ms. Akiwumi has served as a Data Scientist on the Quality Payment Program Cost Plus contract by translating business requirements related to Merit-based Incentive Payment System (MIPS) eligibility and special statuses to programming specifications. She has converted the Final Rule into data requirements and collaborated with data engineers to develop episode grouper measures using Medicare claims data. Ms. Akiwumi is proficient with data analysis using multiple programming languages and statistical packages, such as SAS, SPSS and SQL.


Ms. Akiwumi has supported a number of projects for the U.S. Department of Health & Human Services, including the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) and the Agency for Healthcare Research & Quality (AHRQ).

Prior Experience

Prior to joining IMPAQ, Ms. Akiwumi led a team of statisticians to develop and implement predictive, rule-based, and anomaly studies in SAS and SPSS for program integrity end users utilizing Medicare, Medicaid, and Medi-Medi data, including claims and administrative data. She also led the querying of Medicaid Data warehouses for New Jersey, New York, and Pennsylvania and conducted focused analyses on transportation services, long-term care, community-based waivers, children's school services, and provider and beneficiary enrollment.


Ms. Akiwumi earned her Master in Public Health (MPH) degree with a focus on epidemiology from George Washington University in 2011 and her bachelor's degree in sociology and psychology from Cornell University. She is PMP certified.
