Ms. Paula Mian

Ms. Paula Mian is a Senior Research Analyst in IMPAQ’s Advanced Analytics division. She provides technical and data programming support to a wide range of quantitative tasks, from database construction to data modeling. She also manages tasks and projects within the division.


Ms. Mian has training and experience in quantitative statistical methods, data programming and analysis, as well as data management and quality control. Using primarily Stata, Python, and R, she has worked with several types of data (e.g., experimental, non-experimental, web-scraped, survey, administrative) to run evaluations and other quantitative-based analyses. For example, Ms. Mian has worked on Randomized Controlled Trials (RCTs), leveraged data from the American Community Survey and the National Health Interview Survey, created web-scrapers, and assisted the development of network analyses and predictive models. Ms. Mian is also part of IMPAQ's Data Visualization leadership team, contributing to high quality, effective data visualizations to reports, presentations, and other client deliverables in order to improve the way that data are communicated across all domains.


Ms. Mian has worked with a diverse pool of clients, from foundations, associations, and community-based organizations, to all three levels of government. Examples include the U.S. Department of Labor, the Food and Drug Administration, the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services, California's Department of Education, and the YMCA. She has also worked with numerous clients focused on international projects, such as the U.S. Department of Labor's Bureau of International Labor Affairs (ILAB), the Eliminating Child Labor in Tobacco Growing Foundation (ECLT), and the Catholic Relief Services.

Prior Experience

Prior to joining IMPAQ, Ms. Mian worked on a systematic review of impact evaluations focused on maternal health as a Consultant at the World Bank. Additionally, as a member of the Research on Improving Systems of Education (RISE) team, she contributed to the evaluation of the education program "Big Results Now!" in Tanzania.


Ms. Mian earned her Master of Public Policy degree from Georgetown University in 2017, and her bachelor's degree in international relations from the University of Sao Paulo in 2015.
