In 2011, the National Fund for Workforce Solutions (NFWS) tasked IMPAQ to conduct an evaluation of the NFWS Social Innovation Fund (SIF) Regional Funding Collaborative Workforce Partnerships. As a part of the study, IMPAQ provided estimates on the impact of three Ohio-based NFWS/SIF-funded programs that provide industry-specific training to unemployed workers in the healthcare, manufacturing, and construction fields.

This year, IMPAQ is sponsoring the 7th Annual Gerontologists Giving Back Service Event, an annual volunteer opportunity held in conjunction with the Gerontological Society of America’s (GSA) Annual Scientific Meeting. Gerontologists Giving Back was co-founded by IMPAQ Research Associate Dr. Leanne Clark-Shirley, who has been co-coordinating it with Dr. Sarah Canham since 2008.

We know our work at IMPAQ helps improve public programs and policies, and positively affects people’s lives, but it is not often that this impact is made evident in the public sphere. Recently, the 2016 U.S. Department of Labor (DOL) budget request cited two IMPAQ studies that supports programs to help unemployed workers return to work.

Dr. Ilene Harris (previously Zuckerman), a Managing Director and Principal Research Scientist in IMPAQ’s Health Division, recently co-authored several articles published in five prominent health publications. Dr. Harris has more than 30 years of experience in geriatrics, medication use and quality, medication adherence, long-term care, dementia, traumatic brain injury, and drug policy and program evaluation.

The Coalition for Evidence-Based Policy convened a peer review panel to assess the Department of Labor Employment and Training Administration’s (ETA) evaluation efforts. As part of its deliberations, the panel developed two main recommendations, designed to increase the efficiency of ETA’s evaluation efforts. The panel referenced IMPAQ’s Reemployment and Eligibility Assessment (REA) ETA evaluation as “an excellent example of the evaluation strategy that the peer review panel recommends ETA adopt more widely.”

IMPAQ partnered with FHI 360, the New York Academy of Sciences, and the National Science Foundation to lead the invitational Furthering Girls’ Math Identity convening, an event exploring how to develop a strong math identity in girls. At the convening, researchers, practitioners and experts in math identity worked together to identify the primary ‘drivers’ of girls’ math identity and practices they could implement to have a positive impact on girls’ math identity.
