IMPAQ Principal Research Associate Dr. Andrea Beesley was recently published in two prominent education publications. Dr. Beesley co-authored a chapter titled “Authentic Student Work Samples Support Formative Assessment in Middle School” published in Annual Perspectives in Mathematics Education 2015: Assessment to Enhance Learning and Teaching. This issue of the Annual Perspectives in Mathematics Education includes 21 chapters exploring assessment from a variety of perspectives, including those of mathematics educators and researchers.

In response to the recent earthquake in Nepal that left thousands critically injured and that has caused critical shortages of water, food, shelter and medical supplies, IMPAQ staff mobilized a week-long, employee contribution campaign to raise emergency response funds. IMPAQ staff set a modest goal of raising $1,500 in a one week fundraising sprint, and by the third day, the goal had been exceeded, triggering $1,500 in matching funds from the IMPAQ International Corporate Social Responsibility Program.

IMPAQ participated in the American Heart Association’s annual National Walking Day and took a total of 116,884 steps between all of our offices. With IMPAQ, National Walking Day achieved its twin goals of helping individuals learn the benefits of walking, and motivating us all to get into the habit of getting up and moving throughout the day.

Recent IMPAQ study reveals that schools identified as high performing could differ, depending on the choice of statistical methods used. A study co-authored by IMPAQ International and REL Midwest at American Institutes for Research demonstrates how the choice of statistical methods can change which schools are identified as “beating the odds,” or having higher academic achievement than schools with similar student demographics and income levels.​
