June 29–July 1

Maher and IMPAQ staff will present data during a “tool shop” session at the National Association of Workforce Boards Virtual Forum 2020. The team will present systemic and operational field challenges of opioid abuse in the US labor force. We will showcase data on the correlation between the COVID-19 epidemic and substance use disorder and provide examples of actionable solutions. Through this interactive workshop, our experts will provide regional examples of approaches to recovery and job training currently being implemented across the US. We will address emerging technical assistance and evaluation needs for job seeker and business services staff. IMPAQ and Maher teams work together as subject matter experts, researchers, survey professionals, and technology innovators who combine innovative thinking and rigorous approaches to evaluate and enhance programs. Visit IMPAQ and Maher at the virtual conference to find out more about our evidence-based technical assistance, and how we serve local, national, and federal systems.

Workshop Presentation: Substance Use Disorder and the Workforce System

Substance use disorders (SUDs), including opioid abuse, are ravaging communities across the nation, further complicated by COVID-19 response and economic change—leading to expanding impacts on regional and statewide labor force participation rates. Maher & Maher and IMPAQ International recognize the value of workforce rehabilitation programs to combat the damage of SUDs and the opioid crisis to individuals’ lives and the US economy. This interactive session will explore the full spectrum of strategic and operational opportunities for state and local alignment that includes the workforce system as a key partner, essential to addressing the full scope of this problem.
