The Wage and Hour Division of the U.S. Department of Labor is responsible for the administration and enforcement of a wide range of laws which collectively cover virtually all private and State and local government employment. This project assessed WHD’s directed enforcement work in the residential care and day care industries in different WHD regions. The key outcomes of interest were the future compliance of the investigated firms, as well as the compliance rates of similar firms in the same industry and/or geographic area (i.e., the ripple effect). Findings from this study provided DOL and WHD with important information they can use to target their limited resources in ways that are most effective and will have the most impact on increasing employer compliance with Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) regulations.
