Over the last decade, there has been an increase in Medicare spending for beneficiaries receiving home health care. Total program payments, payments per person servced, and payments per enrollee have all seen significant increases for each year between 2000 and 2009.

Rather than providing aggregate summaries of expenditues or utilization, this issue brief uses micro data from the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS). Using the data from the 2008 Basic Stand Along (BSA) Home Health Agency (HHA) Beneficiary Public Use File (PUF), this issue brief analyzes home health care payment trends by gender and age.
